✨ Inspiration
Shiro Kasamatsu
I absolutely love Japanese woodprints, so no wonder Shiro Kasamatu’s art instantly resonated with me. And this is a great article if you’d like to learn more.
Hiroshi Yoshida
Shortly after, I discovered another woodprint maker: Hiroshi Yoishida.
Nathan Fowkes
I came across Nathan’s art on Cara and immediately fell in love with it. The way he deals with colors, light, and shapes is just PURE MAGIC:
Jamie Hewlett/Gorilaz
I’m a big fan of Gorillaz ever since I was a kid, so it felt like Christmas when I found a bunch of Jamie Hewlett’s Gorillaz art (Reddit).
Claire Wendling
I stumbled across her artbooks a few times on YouTube in the past months, and, to my misfortune, I found it super difficult to buy them online for some reason. 😿 Good you can find her art online, for example here.
Jodorowsky’s Dune
I’ve recently watched Dune 2. I was so hyped I would watch tons of YouTube videos and discussions on Frank Herbert’s books & Denis Villeneuve’s movies, and that’s where I’ve learned about Jodorowsky’s Dune.
Jodorowsky’s Dune is a legendary, unrealized film adaptation of Dune by Chilean-French filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky. Planned in the mid-1970s, it was meant to be an ambitious, psychedelic, and surreal epic, but it was never completed due to budget and studio concerns.
The project became famous for its extravagant vision and the incredible team Jodorowsky assembled, including:
Concept Art & Design: H.R. Giger (Alien), Jean "Moebius" Giraud, and Chris Foss.
Music: Pink Floyd and Magma.
Cast: Salvador Dalí as the Emperor, Orson Welles as Baron Harkonnen, David Carradine, Mick Jagger, and Jodorowsky’s son, Brontis, as Paul Atreides.
The film was never made, but its influence can be seen in later sci-fi films like Star Wars, Blade Runner, and Alien.
The movie was never made, but the art remained - you can see the original artworks here (it’s gorgeous). There’s also a documentary, but I haven’t watched it yet.
